Kisspeptin

Also known as: KISS1 gene product, metastin, kisspeptin-54, kisspeptin-10, KP-54, KP-10

Kisspeptin is a peptide hormone encoded by the KISS1 gene and produced naturally in the human hypothalamus and other tissues. It exists in several fragment lengths, including a 54-amino-acid form (kisspeptin-54) and shorter active fragments such as kisspeptin-10. It acts on the KISS1R receptor, formerly called GPR54, and sits near the top of the reproductive hormone axis.

How it works

Research indicates that kisspeptin binds the KISS1R receptor on neurons that release gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), prompting downstream release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary. Its central role was established when studies found that loss-of-function mutations in KISS1R are associated with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Beyond the reproductive axis, imaging studies have examined kisspeptin signaling in brain regions linked to sexual and emotional processing.

Researched uses

  • studied for stimulating LH and FSH release in reproductive endocrine testing
  • studied for triggering egg maturation during IVF and assisted reproduction protocols
  • studied for hypothalamic amenorrhea and disorders of low reproductive hormone output
  • studied for effects on sexual and emotional brain processing using functional MRI
  • studied for low sexual desire in men and women
  • studied as a research tool for assessing hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis function
Regulatory status

Kisspeptin is investigational and is not approved by the FDA for any use. There is no FDA-approved kisspeptin drug product. It has been used in academic and clinical research studies, typically administered by intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection under research protocols. Products marketed online as kisspeptin "for research use only" are not part of the licensed pharmacy system, are not verified for identity or purity, and are not approved for human use.

Kisspeptin providers compared

Providers that have passed our rubric review are listed first, then ordered by the total cost of a 3-month protocol. We average every cost to a standard 3-month protocol, which our medical advisors consider the best basis for comparing cost and value, and the headline figure folds in any one-time consult or provider-review fee plus three months of membership. Use the calculator below to adjust the length and see the same total broken out.

We average every cost to a standard 3-month protocol, which our medical advisors consider the best window for comparing cost and value. Monthly plans are multiplied by 3 and 3-month programs are taken as billed; each provider's own sticker price and cadence are shown underneath.

The headline figure is the total 3-month cost: the medication plus any one-time consult or provider-review fee (for example RxPepsDirect's $39) and three months of any membership fee. Where a fee is not published we fold in what is known and flag that other fees may apply.

Per-vial providers are averaged to a 3-month protocol at roughly one vial per month (3 vials), marked "est.", with the per-vial price shown underneath. Actual vial count depends on your dose and protocol.

Prices are gathered from each provider's public pages. The "Verified" date is when we last checked the provider's sticker price; for per-vial providers it is the vial price that was verified, not the averaged 3-month total.

Value check: total cost of therapy

This is the real value comparison. A sticker price hides consult and membership fees, so this adds everything up for a full protocol of Kisspeptin and ranks by true total cost. We default to a 3-month protocol, the window our medical advisors consider best for judging value.

Per-vial providers are estimated at about one vial per month (3 vials for 3 months), plus any one-time consult. Actual vial count depends on your dose and protocol, so the real cost may run higher or lower.

Safety notes

In short-term clinical studies, kisspeptin administration was generally reported as well tolerated, with adverse effects being uncommon at the doses studied. The safety of repeated or long-term use has not been established, and its effects outside controlled research settings are not well characterized. Because kisspeptin is not available through the licensed pharmacy system, the identity, purity, and dose of products sold online cannot be verified, which adds unknown risk.

Kisspeptin questions

How much does Kisspeptin cost?

Across the licensed providers tracked here, a full 3-month protocol of Kisspeptin totals $279 to $279, depending on the provider, dose, and what is included. We average every cost to a standard 3-month protocol, which our medical advisors consider the best basis for comparing cost and value, and the total folds in any one-time consult or provider-review fee and three months of membership. The providers listing Kisspeptin sell it by the vial, so the 3-month figure is an estimate of about one vial per month; the exact vial count depends on your dose and protocol. Each price shows the date the provider's sticker price was verified.

Is kisspeptin approved or available by prescription?

No. Kisspeptin is investigational and is not FDA-approved for any indication. It has been used in clinical research studies but is not an approved medicine and is not part of the standard prescription pharmacy system.

How is kisspeptin given in studies?

In published research, kisspeptin has typically been administered by intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection under a study protocol. This monograph does not provide dosing instructions, and no established regimen exists for use outside research.

How can someone access kisspeptin and what does it cost?

Access outside of a clinical trial is not part of the approved or licensed pharmacy system, so there is no standard cost or prescription pathway. Products sold online as research chemicals are unregulated, and their quality and contents cannot be verified.
